Georgian wine is one of the oldest in history in Europe. The earliest signs of viticulture and wine production found to date point to the existence of a wine culture in Georgia ca. 8000 years ago, which gives Georgia the status of the homeland of wine
Among the regions of Georgia most famous for viticulture is Kakheti (which is divided into Telavi and Kvarli micro-regions), followed by Kartli, Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti, as well as Abkhazia.
